Building on the daily practice of 36 Days of Type, I took photos and recorded audio every day for nine days to create a daily collage. This was an intentional practice of connecting to the present moment throughout each day to take a break and go outside; this organically became a grounding exercise.
Process Work
Asset Collection

I went into this project with a general idea of what I was going for, but I allowed space for the process to guide my creative process.
The asset collection took place over nine days. I took photos throughout the day, not knowing exactly how I would eventually use the assets. I just knew that my intention was to create something to represent each day with the collected assets from that day.
I took pictures of the sky when it was dark in the morning, throughout the day, and again at night. I also focused on organic, found objects as subjects.
Throughout the day, I also recorded audio from my environment.
The organization was critical throughout this process; as I collected assets, I set up a system of labeling assets as they were collected.

Exploration
Background

I experimented with various ways of showing a day with the pictures I took throughout the day.
I experimented with one day of sky images by printing out a selection of images, sewing them together, and then manipulating the sheet with a scanner.
I also tried digital assembly in a more structured manner.
While this was an interesting way of showing a day in a snapshot, it didn't lend itself to the opportunity to place a letterform on top, as the composition became very cluttered.
Letterforms

I experimented with collaging the assets and decided I preferred the organic forms created by the leaves instead of the more structured shapes created by a specific font.

Final Composition

In accordance with my intention of this design, I simplified the backgrounds for each day by choosing one image and adding motion to the formation of the letterforms, creating an overall feeling of peacefulness.
I staggered the animation of each day's letter for a peaceful viewing experience and had the letterforms fall apart together for a moment of full leaf coverage in the composition at the end.
To further emphasize the peacefulness, I used one audio clip from a rainy day that I collected during this process.
